This makes *SENSE*

How often do you use phrases like "my gut says X or Y"?

Or when you come to a decision on something, do you sometimes describe it like "a weight off" your shoulders?

We talk about someone or something being "a pain in the neck".

This kind of language is so generic nowadays, it's easy to forget where it all comes from.

Our emotions are mapped within the body. From our joints, to our muscle fibres, there is an inextricable connection between our feelings and our physicality.

This interplay was the central theme to the mobility workshop I hosted last Thursday for Copilot's Women in Software network.

I read the guests some passages from one of my favourite books, The Mountain is You.

The author talks about the importance of releasing our emotions, in the same way we flush out our bodies with secretions like sweat and menstrual blood.

Before you roll your eyes and think she's gone too 'woo woo' (I did too), here's the explanation...

So what does this mean in practical terms?

It means that if you're always ignoring that hip pain, or neck spasm, it's time to listen to the conversation your body is trying to have with you.

It's easy to say "I'm so tight" or "my body is a brick". But where, specifically?

Once we know the location, we can start the process of effectively releasing the mental & physical knot.
