Do less, better

"I’m going to go the gym five times a week."
"From now on, I’m cutting out processed sugar."
"‘Right, new goal. 2 litres of water by 10am!"
"I’m going to read before bed, I just need to decide which book and then I’m all over it..."
"Thinking I might sign up to do a half marathon to kick start everything."
"Ok tonight I’m going to sign up for Mindful Chef too, that’s the missing piece!!!"
"Read something about cold water immersion. Going to start that on a Monday from next week"
What's the problem here?
On the surface, every single one of these commitments is great. All sensible actions towards a healthier life.
Are you having these conversations with yourself and it sounds familiar?
Here's my watch out...
Unless you’re about to sack off your career, your partner, your mates, your chores and your caring responsibilities - I’m afraid I need to tell you…
YOU DON'T HAVE TIME TO DO ALL OF THIS!
Sure, you might manage to juggle everything for a couple of weeks.
And maybe you'll get to two months and you've done a few cold plunges, some random workouts and got to page 9 of your book.

One of my favourite graphics from Gary Vee
But I've coached enough ambitious, high performing women to know that there'll be a niggling feeling of failure.
A creeping sense that the wheels have fallen off...
And maybe you should start all over again, with a new set of commitments that you'll 'stick to this time'.
I have been there myself. It's an exhausting pattern that slowly chipped away at my self-confidence. "Why can't I achieve this? Everyone else seems to do it."
Whoever these people are, their lives don't resemble ours. So it's an irrelevant comparison.
What do you think is more effective for driving sustainable change?
Option A) Doing 3 specific things, every single week, for a year
Option B) Doing 10 miscellaneous things, for a couple of weeks, every third month of the year
My advice? Option A; do less, better.
